Bus driver stops fleeing drunk driver

A drunk driver hit a bus and was then stopped by the bus driver when he tried to flee in an incident in Baoshan District, police said on Friday.

The incident took place at 8:40pm near the intersection of Songnan Road and Songfa Road, but there were no passengers on the bus at that time, police said.

The bus driver stopped the drunk driver, a man surnamed Liu, by blocking his way ahead, and Liu was later subdued by two traffic assistants who happened to be patrolling there.

Police said a blood test showed that Liu had a blood alcohol level of 236mg/100ml, while the alcohol level qualified for drunk driving in China is 80mg/100ml.

Liu is now under detention.
