A senior public welfare service base was unveiled in downtown Huangpu District on Thursday, which will serve as a center for seniors to conduct cultural activities as well as offering free legal assistance and psychological support.

Various cultural activities and charity programs will be held at the base in the Bansongyuan Road sub-district, and volunteers will use it to develop events aimed at helping needy residents in the community.

Social workers, psychological counselors and lawyers will also provide free services for the elderly, as well as recreational activities, health consultancy and various classes.

Free help will also be offered writing final wills for needy seniors and seniors living alone in the sub-district.

The base is another step towards the goal of enriching the retirement life of seniors and increasing senior service facilities at the community level, said Fan Dakai, deputy director of the subdistrict office.
