Most of the city received sleet or snow Saturday morning with the chilly and snowy weather expected to grow stronger in western areas in the evening, weathermen said.

The sleety condition will continue through tomorrow morning and drizzles will be back starting tomorrow noon with a bounceback in temperatures.

According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, there will be moderate to heavy snow in western Shanghai on Saturday evening due to the declining mercury. The snowfall is likely to be 3 to 5 millimeters deep with the snow cover to be 1 to 2 centimeters on the ground.

Chongming, Jiading, Qingpu and Jinshan districts may see the lowest temperature below 0 degrees Celsius with thin ice to be seen in the greenbelts and shaded areas for a brief time.

The persistent cold and wet weather may end in the middle of next week with the high returning to 10 degrees Celsius.
