It's going to warm up, but not for long
The chilly temperatures witnessed across the city are likely to give some reprieve early next week with a high of 10 degrees Celsius, the local weather bureau announced.
After receiving some snowfall at the weekend, the benchmark Xujiahui weather station plunged to just 0.5C Sunday morning, creating a record for the second half of this year.
Four local districts saw temperatures drop below freezing point — Qingpu, Songjiang and Jiading districts recorded lows of -0.3 degrees, while Jinshan District fell to -0.2. Most districts saw lows between 0 and 1 degree.
A rainy Monday is expected to start the week, with precipitation to be moderate. The rain will weaken to drizzles Tuesday morning with the skies clearing up in the afternoon. It will be mostly cloudy on Wednesday and Thursday.
The temperature will range from 6 to 10 degrees Monday and Tuesday and then get colder from Wednesday, with the low dropping to 2 degrees and a high below 10 degrees.
During the round of wet and snowy weather between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Pudong received rainfall and snowfall of 2.4 millimeters, the heaviest among all districts. Songjiang came second, with 2.2 millimeters of rain and snow. Songjiang and Jinshan districts recorded snow cover of 1 centimeter, with the city's other areas seeing no accumulated snow or icy roads, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
