Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Victor Luis, CEO of Tapestry, Inc., and his delegation on December 7.

Li said as China’s biggest economic center, Shanghai is building its “Shanghai Shopping” brand, accelerating the process of building itself into a consumer city, and providing the international fashion companies and brands a more favorable development environment.

Tapestry, Inc. and its brands are popular among Chinese and foreign consumers and the company’s future strategic development plan dovetails well with Shanghai’s positioning and the development goal of its industries.

The city hopes that Tapestry, Inc. could help develop Shanghai market and launch its new products, innovative designs, new business models in the city.

Last month, Shanghai successfully hosted the first China International Import Expo, which was China’s major step to further open up to the outside world. The expo will be held annually and the city welcomes Tapestry, Inc. and other companies to participate in the future expos to share business opportunities.

Shanghai will continue to open its door wider to the outside world and optimize its business environment and support the domestic and foreign companies operating in the city, Li added.

Luis said Tapestry, Inc. has chosen Shanghai to launch its 2019 early autumn collections, which is the first time the company launches its new collection in a city other than New York.

China has great market potentials and Shanghai is a city of business and fashion. The company will further increase its investment in Shanghai, and deepen the cooperation in product launch, fashion design, and talent cultivation with the city, Luis added.

Zhuge Yujie, secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Committee, also attended the meeting.
