Shanghai mayor meets secretary-general of the International Exhibitions Bureau

Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, secretary-general of the International Exhibitions Bureau and director-general of World Expo Museum, and his delegation yesterday.

Ying said Loscertales is an Honorary Citizen and old friend of Shanghai and the city is grateful for his contribution. Also, the city is glad to know that the international community is getting more familiarized with the expo and is becoming more enthusiastic about participating in the expo.

The 2010 Shanghai Expo was a great success under the guidance of the International Exhibitions Bureau and its secretary-general, and it has left a vivid impression in the minds of local citizens.

Shanghai and the International Exhibitions Bureau jointly built the World Expo Museum to commemorate the 2010 Shanghai Expo. The city welcomes the museum to host more international conferences related to the 2010 Shanghai Expo, and exert its role as an international multi-functional platform that carries out functions such as research and development, education, training, consultancy and communication, Ying added.

Loscertales said he’s glad to come back to Shanghai again. The city hosted the most successful expo in history, which promoted the city’s development and made people’s lives better.

When the expo was over, the International Exhibitions Bureau and Shanghai have had many successful cooperation programs. The bureau will keep playing its role as the expo’s dynamic academia and event center, promoting the experience-sharing and cooperation among the expo hosting countries and cities, he added.

Xu Kunlin, vice-mayor of Shanghai, and Hong Hao, president of the council of the museum, also attended the meeting.
