Fireman gives mask to pregnant woman in rescue
A firefighter gave his protective mask to a pregnant woman while rescuing her from a house fire on Friday.
The fire broke out from a ground floor apartment on Banqiao Road E. in suburban Jinshan District around 11:30am.
The firefighters found a burning electric kettle in the room and the fire was rapidly spreading. The fire was put out soon, but heavy smoke remained.
Four people were trapped by the smoke, including a child and a pregnant woman. The woman was trapped in a balcony on the third floor.
Firefighter Yu Xiaohu took off his mask and gave it to the woman. Then he carried her out of the building while holding his breath.
“The smoke could have damaged her throat if I didn’t give her my mask,” said Yu.
None of the four were injured, said the fire department of Jinshan. Further investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
