An artist's rendition of the 2019 New Year countdown gala to be held at Xintiandi.

Shanghai's countdown to 2019 at Xintiandi will feature performances and a light show.

The annual New Year’s Eve gala at Taipinghu Park will have a "new era, singing for the future” theme. The central stage on Taipinghu Lake will be decorated as a "dream cruise liner" where famous singers Zhou Bichang, Aska Yang and Ding Dang will perform for an audience of thousands. Large LED screens will display the shikumen, Shanghai's unique stone-gate architecture, of Xintiandi.

For the countdown, officials and performers will pull the ship's rudders together to symbolize sailing for the dream, according to the organizer.

Traffic restrictions will be in place between 9:30pm and 12:10am in the Huaihai Road M., Danshui Road, Fuxing Road M. and Xizang Road S area. The city's traffic police will release further details of restrictions.

Tickets are required to take part in the event which will be broadcast live on television.

Tickets are available by registering with Xintiandi's WeChat (xintiandiSH) and purchasing a New Year gift package. Also, shopping at Xintiandi can gain credits which can be exchanged for tickets.
