Baoshan a winner for esports industry
Team KNG from Anhui Province and solo player Bai Haoyue from Henan Province emerged victorious in China's major electronic sports championship in Baoshan District at the weekend.
The final game of the 2018 China Innovation Esports was held at Innovation Galaxy, an innovation park renovated from a historical warehouse site in Baoshan’s Gaojing Town.
Two teams and two players had won through against some 10,000 players in 100 Chinese cities competing in the games "League of Legends" and "HearthStone: Heroes Of Warcraft.”
The competition was hosted by China Information Industry Trade Association and Yesee Tech.
The final was a boost for Baoshan's aim to become the gathering place for Shanghai's esports industry, said Chen Xiaojie, the district deputy director.
The district government will further issue support policies and attract international esports organizations and industrial associations to settle in Baoshan to drive esports development, Chen said. The district has a well-developed Internet industry and abundant professionals from universities.
The State Council has issued a guideline to boost information consumption, which includes the esports industry. China's information consumption scale reached 3.64 trillion yuan in the first three quarters of 2018, a 13.4 percent increase on year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
An esports carnival was held along with the final competition at the park, part of the Gaojing scientific and innovation town. Audiences could experience cutting-edge esports equipment such as virtual reality games and curved video game screens.
