Norovirus to blame for vomiting and diarrhea at Xuhui primary school
Norovirus was found to be the cause of student vomiting and diarrhea at Yuannan Primary School in Xuhui District after initial investigation, the district food and market watchdog said on Thursday.
Parents said on Weibo that many students from the school visited hospital on Wednesday night after developing symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and fever.
Initial investigation has ruled out food poisoning after food and vomit samples were tested, and the incident has been handed to district disease control and prevention authorities, the Xuhui District Market Supervision and Management Bureau said.
Norovirus is highly contagious and can be spread in water, food and air. It can cause gastroenteritis and symptoms of infection including fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Those infected usually recover within a few days.
