The Shanghai Chemical Industry Park opened a themed exhibition Thursday to mark its achievements over the past 22 years, owing to the country’s drive of reform and opening-up.

Founded in 1996, the park specializes in the development of petrochemical and fine chemistry businesses.

So far, around 88 enterprises from home and abroad have settled in the park. By the end of October, the park had attracted US$24.9 billion in foreign investment, with fixed asset investment surpassing 124.7 billion yuan (US$18 billion).

Officials from the park said that around 80 percent of the enterprises there are foreign-funded companies.

“Amid the background of China’s reform and opening-up, the park has applied innovative modes for its development, management and operation,” said Chen Zhen, an official with the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park.

He added that the chemical industry is creative and dynamic, and that it is also possible to be environmentally friendly in the new era.

The air quality and sewage emissions in the park are also monitored, and the green coverage rate has reached 25 percent.
