Shanghai’s first industrial park for Internet security was launched in Putuo District on Wednesday and will focus on cybersecurity in the industrial sector.

The Shanghai Industrial Internet of Things Security Industry Pilot Park, to be based in the Universal Software Park, and the yet-to-be-completed Taopu Smart City in Putuo, will gather leading companies from both home and abroad, as well as national research institutes, to boost the city’s cybersecurity industry, Zhang Ying, chief engineer with the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Informatization, said.

Additional parks focusing on the cybersecurity of Big Data, AI, industrial Internet and financial technology will be developed citywide, Zhang told the 2018 Cybersecurity Industry Innovation Shanghai Forum.

The future park will cooperate with companies and institutes from Israel, the United States and Japan to create a demonstration and gathering zone for the cybersecurity industry, according to Li Wenbo, head of the science and technology commission of Putuo.

Top scientists, industrial leaders and government officials shared their knowledge on the industry at the forum, which was jointly hosted by the Shanghai Institute of Cyberspace Security Industry and the Shanghai Trusted Industrial Control Platform.

Ni Guangnan, an academic from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and one of China’s top computer scientists, was appointed chief counselor of the CICSI during the forum.

“Industrial security is expected to have a market worth over 100 billion yuan (US$14.5 billion) in the near future,” said Liu Yi, chief operation officer of the TICPSH.

The institute also released the first 2018 Global Cybersecurity Industry Investment and Financing Report, as well as the 2018 Global Cybersecurity Companies Competitiveness Report. Both reports will be released annually to guide the development of the industry, according to the CICSI.
