Museum throws birthday party for Newton and residents born the same day
Twenty-five people who share a birthday with one of the world’s greatest scientists Isaac Newton gathered at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum to have an early birthday party on Tuesday, three days before their big day.
Newton, born on January 4 in 1642, was an English physicist, mathematician and inventor who was well known for inventing the theory of gravity, inspired by a fallen apple. He was appointed by the museum as the scientist of January.
Today, 25 residents, mostly children aged from 6 to 7, gathered at the museum to have an early birthday party. They saw short plays of Newton’s renowned stories such as he boiled his pocket watch instead of egg and he was hit by a fallen apple. Also, they "drew" an apple tree with 3D pen.
From this year, the museum will name "scientist of the month" every month and hold a variety of activities around these renowned scientists as to promote science education. Event arrangements are available on the museum’s WeChat account.
“We aim to make scientists the stars and attract children to get to know science,” said Miao Wenjing, deputy director of the museum. “It is necessary to promote science education among children as Shanghai is on its way to build a science and technology center. It relies on the next generation to create the future.”
