A pair of stamps celebrate the upcoming Year of the Pig. The first depicts a pig galloping toward a better life, while the second shows the five members of a happy pig family enjoying their easy lives. The stamps will be released on Saturday.

Stamp collectors should ready their wallets for the release of the annual zodiac stamps, this year for the Year of the Pig, at the weekend.

The pig stamps will be available at 87 China Post branches and philately stores across Shanghai from Saturday.

China Post will continue with their policy of decreasing the number of stamps released, which means there will be 10 percent fewer pig stamps than dog stamps. The circulation of the pig stamps will be the lowest in the past nine years.

The pair of stamps, with face value of 2.4 yuan (35 US cents), were designed by Han Meilin, 82, who designed the Beijing Olympics’ mascots.

The first stamp depicts a cute chubby pig which is running, indicating that it will lead us into a prosperous life.

A family of five pigs on the second one, brings the wish of family gathering and the five “Fu” — health, kindness, longevity, peace and wealth.

Since the first zodiac stamp was released in 1980, China has been issuing these stamps to record the passage of generations and the change of eras.
