New media becomes best way for health education

Public WeChat accounts run by local hospitals, health authorities and famous doctors have become the major way to promote health education and improve public health awareness. 

Stories and health care information on public WeChat accounts were visited 132 million times in 2018, which means each account was visited nearly 1 million times, the Shanghai Health Commission said.

Popular stories on local public health WeChat accounts usually cover medical information, services, health education, medical breakthroughs and news, as well as stories on medical professionals, health officials said.

Shanghai Health Commission said the authority will continue to make use of new media for medical information promotion and health education.

The Health Shanghai 12320 WeChat account, run by the commission, will offer medicine consultations, vaccination information and health supervision information, like results of public swimming pool checks, in the future.
