Michelin-starred restaurant chain fined for false advertising

Michelin-starred Madam Goose has been fined 30,000 yuan (US$4,430) by the Putuo District market watchdog for illegal advertisements.

Wowprime, a catering business which operates the chain restaurants, has also been ordered by the Putuo District Market Supervision and Management Bureau to stop publishing the illegal ads.

The advertisement claimed an ingredient of Madam Goose's signature roast goose is a 90-day dark brown goose from Qingyuan in Guangdong Province, which is untrue, according to the bureau.

More than 260,000 menus containing the advertisements were involved and they were offered at 18 outlets of Madam Goose nationwide. The ads also appeared on the websites of the restaurant, according to the bureau.

The practice violates China's advertisement law, it said.
