The city's Jade Buddha Temple presented hundreds of Spring Festival couplets to citizens over the weekend in an annual celebration to wish for health and good fortune.

Monks with the temple wrote the traditional couplets and the character fu (good fortune) at the temple on Saturday and presented them to visitors and residents.

A large number of worshippers and citizens waited in a long line at the temple in early morning to accept the good wishes from the historical temple.

According to the ancient tradition, the couplets express joy over the Lunar New Year and wishes for a better life in the coming year. Couplets originated from inscriptions on boards made from peach trees in the Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BC).
