Smart toilet covers sold online fail quality check
Nearly 40 percent of smart toilet covers sold on four online shopping sites that were inspected by the city's market watchdog failed tests, posing potential safety hazards.
The four sites are jd.com, yhd.com, bl.com and ocj.com.cn, according to the Shanghai Market Supervision and Management Bureau.
The bureau conducted tests on 28 batches of smart toilet seats, and 11 of them were substandard.
They failed for indexes such as the protection of components requiring electricity, grounding protection and structure.
A batch of toilet seats branded Horow which were manufactured by a producer based in Hunan Province and sold on yhd.com failed for the protection of power components, which may lead to electric shock, the bureau said.
Another batch of seats branded Jtaccord by a producer in Ningbo, neighboring Zhejiang Province, and sold on ocj.com.cn, failed in grounding protection.
Grounding is a key safety protection measure, the bureau said. Once insulation of electronic appliances is damaged, proper grounding measure can protect the safety of consumers, officials said.
A batch of seats branded Tinymu that were made by a Hangzhou producer and sold on JD.com and another batch branded Novita by a South Korean producer and sold on bl.com were substandard for structure, which may cause injury accidents, according to the bureau.
These businesses have been ordered to stop selling substandard products immediately and clear their stocks by authorities.
Investigation is underway, according to the bureau.
