A man who drove his friend’s car without a license and ran off after knocking down an assistant police officer has been arrested with the approval of Qingpu District People’s Procuratorate.

Zhang was driving a van on the Shanghai-Changzhou Expressway on November 16, when he approached a checkpoint at about 3am.

Liu, an assistant police officer, gestured for him to pull over, however, Zhang attempted to go around Liu and crashed into him instead.

Police traced the van’s owner, Pan, who said the van had been borrowed by his friend Zhang.

Zhang surrendered to police and told officers he had been driving without a license. Afraid he would be punished, he had attempted to bypass the checkpoint.
