Xuhui District's education authority announced on Friday that it has set up a joint investigation team with local police to look into allegations a teacher at Shanghai Weiyu Middle School made a breach of professional ethics.

The announcement was made after some online media platforms reported that a physics teacher of a 9th-grade class at the school had been acting inappropriately toward female students, according to Shanghai Observer.

The education bureau in Xuhui, where the school is located, released a statement on Friday that it has received reports about the teacher's problem.

The education bureau said it would not tolerate any behavior violating teachers' ethics and will punish the teacher severely if the investigation finds the allegation is true.

The statement said a joint team has been set up by the district education bureau and police to investigate, and that the teacher involved will be suspended from education work during the investigation.
