Passengers taking trains from Shanghai to Beijing will temporarily be subject to additional security checks at the city’s railway terminals from Tuesday, the railway police said on Monday.

The increased security measures are being taken for the annual national political sessions which are going to be held in Beijing from March 3.

At Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, additional security checks will be added to 11 gates where passengers taking 79 trains to Beijing have their tickets checked before boarding.

At Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station, passengers taking trains to Beijing will also have their luggage and belongings checked again in waiting areas, police said.

Police advise passengers to take all bottled and canned drinks out of their luggage and suitcases before going through security checks.
