Shanghai auto festival to zoom into Jiading until May
The opening ceremony of the Shanghai Auto Culture Festival was held at Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre on Tuesday.
A series of auto-themed activities will be held in Jiading District from Tuesday till the end of May to mark the 12th Shanghai Auto Culture Festival.
The activities cover forums, antique car and RV exhibitions, a karting festival, auto-themed tours, and more. The highlight will be activities to be held at the Shanghai International Circuit during the 2019 F1 Chinese Grand Prix. This year’s Chinese Grand Prix will be the 1,000th race of the F1 World Championship, which is scheduled for April 12 to 14.
“Letting Shanghai host the memorable 1,000th race is a kind of recognition of the city and the status of its auto industry,” Wang Hao, vice director of Jiading District, said at the opening ceremony of the Shanghai Auto Culture Festival, which was held at Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre today.

Jointly organized by Jiading District government and Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism, the annual auto festival is part of Jiading’s efforts to become a world-class pioneer in the auto industry.
According to organizers, a “Jiading auto park” will be set up near Shanghai International Circuit during this year’s F1 Chinese Grand Prix to showcase local auto culture.
In the park, visitors will be able to try out high-tech products, including racing simulators, to experience the speed of driving a racing car. The Shanghai-based EVCard, one of the country’s biggest hourly car rental operators, will set up an interactive zone to inform visitors of the latest trends and development of the car sharing industry.
There will also be stands at the park to show visitors Jiading’s tourism resources, folk culture and local snacks.
Other auto culture festival activities include a “Ferrari Carnival” to be held at Shanghai International Circuit on May 24-26. The carnival features a sports car exhibition, a racing simulator competition, driving skill performances and more.
During the auto culture festival, nearly 100 antique cars from over 20 brands will be on exhibition at Jiading’s Shanghai Auto Museum. At Shanghai International Circuit’s Kart World, discounts will be offered during the festival to allow more citizens to experience the sport of karting.
