Helicopter mercy flight saves face
A 2-year-old boy who fell from a ninth story window is stable in Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital after being transferred from Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, by helicopter for surgery on Wednesday.
Rui Rui, 33 months old, was in a critical condition after suffering several fractures in his fall on Tuesday.
The boy required surgery as soon as possible, said doctor Shi Jun with the oral craniofacial department of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, so they decided to use a helicopter to bring him to Shanghai, avoiding any risk resulting from traffic congestion.
Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital specializes in oral craniofacial surgery and has treated more than 50,000 patients in four years. Last year, the hospital received 24,700 patients with facial injuries , a rise of 30 percent.
