Over a dozen flights were cancelled or delayed at Shanghai's two main airports on Monday morning due to heavy fog.

The air traffic controller issued a yellow alert on Monday morning and forecast takeoff and landing capacities at Pudong and Hongqiao airports would be reduced by 30 percent until midday.

About 10 flights were delayed and five flights were cancelled at Pudong airport, while operations at Hongqiao airport are being slightly affected.

Heavy fog over most of the city's suburban areas at dawn caused ferries to be temporarily suspended.

The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued an orange fog alert around 6:30am as the visibility in Chongming, Baoshan, Jiading, Minhang, Qingpu, Songjiang and Pudong fell to less than 100 meters. Temperatures ranged between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius.

Sunrise soon dispelled the fog, and the alert was lifted at 8:45am, leading all ferries to recommence at 10am.

The weather authority said Monday would be a warm, sunny day with the mercury reaching as high as 18 degrees.
