Increased fines for errant bus drivers

Bus drivers who fail to comply with regulations will be liable for increased penalties from March 15.

Currently, drivers who fail to halt at stops are liable for fines of 500 yuan (US$75). This will be raised to 2,000 yuan. 

Drivers who allow passengers off between stops will be fined 3,000 yuan, compared with 2,000 yuan now.

Drivers who fail to ensure their buses are equipped with safety equipment such as fire extinguishers will be fined 2,000 yuan. The current fine is 1,000 to 2,000 yuan.

Drivers who overload their buses on freeways will face a fine of up to 5,000 yuan.  

All bus drivers have been informed of the new regulations.
