A Shanghai garbage sorting volunteer team was established in the city on Friday as the Youth League Shanghai gears up for waste classification.

Four garbage reduction and sorting projects that will involve the participation of youngsters will be launched in the city this year, according to the youth league.

Each project will select 100 models at sub-districts, office buildings, schools and universities, commercial complexes, Metro stations and transportation hubs, the league said.

The aim is to mobilize youngsters for garbage sorting, league officials said.

At office buildings, white-collar workers will be encouraged to contribute to the reduction and collection of food packages ordered from online platforms and express delivery, while schools and universities will be told to conduct various activities such as giving speeches, drawing competition, volunteer service and innovative product design to promote garbage sorting.

Youngsters will be urged to reduce the use of disposable products and serve as volunteers for waste classification. They will be encouraged to play an active role in garbage sorting and its promotion, the league said.
