Jail, fine and dismissal for corrupt former Party chief

Qi Jun, former head and Party chief of the previous Shanghai Administration of Work Safety (now the city's emergency management bureau), was sentenced to 12 years in jail for bribery and private distribution of state assets by the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court.

Besides the jail term, he also received a three-year deprivation of political rights and a fine of 1.52 million yuan (US$226,433).

Qi, who was investigated by the local discipline inspection commission, was dismissed from the Party and removed from his post for serious violations of Party discipline in 2017.

The investigation showed Qi ganged up with others to challenge the inspection carried out by authorities and was present at some feasts and entertainment events which may have affected the fair performance of his duty. 

He was also said to have lied about his own condition and received money and gifts from others, along with claims of "deals between power and sex."

His bribe taking from others and secret distribution of state-owned assets to individuals brought him charges from local prosecutors last year.
