Market supervisors work during an inspection trip to a Lotus outlet in Baoshan District on Tuesday.

Some "health pots," a kind of electric kettle, were seized by market inspectors at the Baoshan outlet of supermarket chain Lotus on Tuesday.

The kettles made in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, by Huge Electrical Appliance Co Ltd are suspected of substandard grounding, which could lead to electric shocks, according to the Shanghai Market Supervision and Management Bureau.

Samples of the kettles were sent for tests, and the outlet has taken the rest kettles off the shelves.

Health pots are gaining popularity as people pursue healthy lifestyles.

The pots are usually made of borosilicate glass rather than plastics, iron, aluminum or stainless steel which some believe may leak metal ions and other harmful substances. Health pots can be used to boil tea and cook food like eggs and noodles.
