There was a minor power outage on the Metro on Wednesday, and in a separate incident a passenger jumped onto the track to retrieve his phone.

The electric power from an overhead cable between Metro Line 2’s Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and Century Avenue stations was tripped off at 11:10am, causing a blackout of a train, said the Shentong Metro Group.

Passengers were evacuated without incident at Century Avenue.

According to the initial investigation, the incidents was most probably caused by a short circuit.

The investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, a man jumped onto the track of Metro Line 9 at Sheshan Station on Wednesday morning to retrieve a cellphone he had dropped.

The man initially asked an attendant for help but had been told it was only safe to search for the phone after operations ceased at night.

He then asked the attendant to help him locate the phone but when the platform screen doors were opened he jumped down.

The station attendant had to push an emergency button to stop trains coming into the station.

The man was quickly pulled out but eight trains were delayed.

The man was later taken away by the police.

The Metro operator has urged all passengers to obey safety regulations.
