The nation’s first focus group consisting of former child patients and members of child patients' families was established at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University on Friday.

The groups is seeking ways to bridge the communication gap between patients and medical staff, the hospital said.

Hospital officials said they received good response recruiting details for the group were released on March 10. A total of 460 applications were received within one week.

“We selected 21 applicants, covering a broad sample of criteria,” said Xu Hong from the hospital. “We want to listen to patients and their families to improve our services and treatment .”

A woman with a 4-year-old daughter is a member. She said she had written down comments and doubts during each outpatient appointment and will share them items with the hospital.

A 31-year-old man, a diabetic since childhood and a regular visitor to the hospital, said he had been through a lot during his own treatment. “I want to use my own case to help patients and doctors in their mutual understanding,” he said.
