Expats riding e-bikes were the focus of a traffic crackdown over the weekend.

The citywide traffic law enforcement campaign targeting non-motor vehicle users and pedestrians was held on Saturday afternoon.

Shanghai traffic police and police concentrated their efforts at major intersections, especially accident blackspots.

As well as jaywalkers, they targeted e-bikes without licence plates, illegally modified bikes, and riders who ignored red lights, used wrong lanes and who rode bikes in areas they were not allowed.

In the Bund area, police from Huangpu District caught four expats illegally carrying pillion passengers.

Police officers Zhu Weiting said riders were stopped at the intersections of Jiangxi Road M. and Hankou Road, Nanjing Road E. and Jiangxi Road M. and Yan’an Road E. and Sichuan Road M.
