An illegal taxi driver and his sidekick were detained by police on Tuesday.

On Monday, “Jeffwell” posted a receipt on the Weibo microblog, showing that someone was charged 1,900 yuan (US$283) for a taxi ride.

According to Jeffwell, a friend who works for Airbus was on a business trip in Shanghai on March 11. The unidentified friend left Terminal 1 at Pudong International Airport bound for Minhang Baolong Le Meridien about 50 kilometers away. The fare for such a distance usually costs about 180 yuan.

The law enforcement officers located the sidekick, identified only as Yang, by the information shown on the receipt. Officers learned that the cabbie, surnamed Yang, only got 190 yuan, with the remaining 1,710 yuan going into Yang’s pocket.

Yang is now under criminal detention. Chen has had his car seized and may face a fine of up to 10,000 yuan for a first offence.
