Two suspects in a robbery that took place in downtown Shanghai 20 years ago have finally been apprehended, police said on Tuesday.

The robbery took place in an apartment in a residential complex on Dapu Road, Huangpu District, in the early morning of November 30, 1998.

A man who lived in the apartment lost 60,000 yuan (US$9,000) and a mobile phone.

A woman surnamed Li, from Hunan Province, was soon established as a suspect, but she fled Shanghai.

Local police said they had never given up on the case, and stayed in touch with their counterparts in Hunan.

Important clues came to light earlier this year, and Li was caught on February 14 in Hunan.

Another suspect, a man surnamed Pan who is Li’s ex-husband, was caught a few days after, police said.

The two are now in detention.
