Qingming travelers set railway record

On April 5 alone, 3.22 million passengers in Yangtze River Delta region took trains, setting a new record for railway passenger flows in a single day.

Some 360,000 people left Shanghai on April 7, which marked the end of the three-day Qingming break, Shanghai Railway Station said.

The three railway stations in the city put on 33 extra trains going to other cities in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The delta has been a popular tourist destination over the break. The Hangzhou-Huangshan high-speed train route, which strings a number of tourist attractions, have transported some 86,000 people between April 4 and 6.

According to China Railway, the Qingming break this year was much busier than last year. Altogether, 8.13 million people took trains in the delta region, which is administrated by the Shanghai bureau of China Railway, 13.6 percent more than last year.

On April 5 alone, 3.22 million passengers in the region took trains, setting a new record for railway passenger flows in one day.
