A photo exhibition featuring the unseen lives of endangered species across the world will be unveiled in Shanghai on Tuesday.

The LOVE for Wildlife Photo Exhibition, hosted by Shanghai Disney Resort and environmental organization WildAid, will be open, free of charge, through April 30 on the second floor of the Lakeshore building at Disneytown.

The exhibition features dozens of photos by Chinese actress Jiang Yiyan, who is known for spending years taking photos of wildlife.

The photos highlight a wide range of endangered wildlife and their natural habitats, and convey the message that every animal, endangered or otherwise, requires a healthy ecosystem to thrive.

Jiang described flamingos as one of nature’s most beautiful creatures, as elegant, enchanting and agile as ballet dancers.

“Flamingos are a gift from God," she said of one of her photos of dozens of flamingos taken in 2014 in Mexico. “But now, they are under great threat due to climate change."

In 2011 in Tanzania, she was surprised by a group of elephants walking just 4-5 meters from her one morning.

“I felt like I was having a conservation with nature,” she said. “Elephants are smart, but they just can’t escape the traps of poachers.”

In 2016, Jiang visited the last male northern white rhino in the world in Kenya. He died in 2018 at the age of 45, resulting in the functional extinction of this subspecies.

The exhibition is part of the resort’s Earth Month to raise public awareness of environmental protection.

Throughout April, visitors to Shanghai Disneyland can also interact with Xiao Tui, a talking-walking recycling bin, to learn more about waste-sorting.
