The Shanghai Haiwan Half Marathon was held at the Haiwan tourist attraction in Fengxian District on Saturday, with 3,000 runners competing in the 7-kilometer and 21-kilometer races.
Participants ran along the Bihaijinsha Beach, appreciating the beautiful scenery on the way.
Liu Xiao Ling Tong, who is best known for playing the Monkey King in the TV series, attended the event. More than 10,000 people were there to see him.
A variety of tourism and sports events will be held at the Haiwan tourist attraction this year, its operator said.
They include sailing and sailboard games in July, a tourism kite festival in September and the Bihaijinsha water skiing festival in October.
