Young Russian model discharged from Shanghai hospital
A Russian model suffering from meningitis was discharged from hospital on Saturday after treatment at the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center.
The 21-year-old model, known only as Alisa, fainted during a fashion show late last month in Shanghai.
She suffered from a rash and fever and was diagnosed with varicella at hospital. However, her symptoms worsened and she was later diagnosed with epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis by Lu Hongzhou, an expert of infectious diseases.
She was sent to the center’s infectious diseases department and doctors used an antibacterial for her treatment.
After two weeks of treatment, she fully recovered and was discharged from hospital.
Alisa said she did not take a meningitis vaccine back in Russia.
She works in China three days out of every week.
Lu said meningitis is a common respiratory tract infectious that pops up in winter and spring, and that children between six months and 15 years of age are particularly vulnerable.
Its symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, and shock, and patients can die if the case is serious, according to Lu.
