A performance with a Shengsi flavor entertained those taking part in an event to boost tourism on the islands.

Ten projects aimed at boosting tourism in the Shengsi archipelago were signed in Shanghai on Friday as local government authorities promoted the attractions of the islands in Zhejiang Province to Shanghai residents.

They relate to the establishment of a minsu (B&B) cluster at the Huanglong Island and Dongzuitou fishing village, the Gouqi Island Yueliangwan resort hotel, the Shuimu Shengsi Island modern agricultural zone and an art museum on Huaniao Island.

Traditional fishing customs and culture were on display and tours of the islands were launched during the event at the Shanghai International Convention Center in the Pudong New Area.

Shengsi will step up integration in the Yangtze River Delta and strengthen cooperation with Shanghai in cultural and tourism industry development, said Shao Lei, the island's governor.

The target is to make Shengsi a "back yard garden on the sea" for Shanghai residents and their top sea islands destination, Shengsi authorities said.

Shengsi is highly complementary in terms of tourism for Shanghai, and the two sides have huge potential in tourism cooperation, said Chen Ping, director of the promotion department of the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism. “The event bridges a platform for the two sides in terms of tourism exchange."

Shengsi's cultural and tourism investment projects were also launched at the event.

Shengsi, in the northeast of Zhejiang, consists of islands to the east of Hangzhou Bay. They are a weekend getaway for Shanghai residents, and known for their sea, sand, fresh seafood and ocean culture.
