Shanghai Party Secretary Li Qiang met Toshihiro Nikai, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s special envoy and secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, on Thursday.

Li said that Nikai and his delegation’s attendance at the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing shows Japan’s affirmation of support for President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Noting that China-Japan relations are back on normal track and gaining positive momentum, Li said Shanghai is willing to expand cooperation with Japanese cities to promote healthy and stable development of bilateral ties.

Nikai hoped to promote cooperation and communication with Shanghai in various sectors, including urban management, medical treatment, elderly care, education, culture and scientific innovation, so as to achieve a win-win situation.
