Suspect in over 60 burglaries arrested
A man suspected of over 60 burglaries in Shanghai has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
All of the burglaries took place in the Changqiao Xincun area of Xuhui District between January 31 and February 25. Items stolen are said to be worth around 50,000 yuan (US$7,400).
The burglaries mostly happened in first-floor apartments at old residential complexes, police said.
The suspect, a man surnamed Li, was arrested at an Internet cafe in Minhang District.
Xuhui police said the number of burglaries in the district reported to police is down 43 percent so far this year compared with the same period last year, and that 61 percent of all burglary cases had been solved with stolen items worth over 200,000 yuan recovered.
