Li Qiang, Shanghai’s Party secretary, met Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on April 30.

Li said he hoped that the president’s visit will further deepen all-round exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and Portugal and achieve mutual benefit and win-win situation on a wider scope.

The 2nd China International Import Expo will be held in Shanghai this November. More Portuguese companies are welcome to participate in the exhibition, showcase quality products and services, and share opportunities for China’s development, Li added.

Portugal is willing to deepen the cooperative exchange with Shanghai in the areas of economy, trade, science, technology, sports, tourism, humanities and other fields, pushing the Sino-Portugal friendship to a new level, Rebelo de Sousa said.

Chinese Ambassador to Portugal Cai Run, Shanghai leaders Zhuge Yujie and Wu Qing also attended the meeting.

China and Portugal established diplomatic relations in 1979. In 2005, they elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
