The Greenland Classical Music Concerts at the Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District attracted thousands of people this weekend.

The event, in its eighth year, celebrates the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Tickets sold out quickly.

Audiences sang well-known folk songs along with young Chinese tenors — Shi Yijie, Han Peng and Xue Haoyin — during a concert on Saturday.

On Sunday night, renowned German conductor Christoph Eschenbach will perform with Chinese violinist Chen Rui and the SWR Symphony Orchestra to present a concert featuring excerpts from Bedoich Smetana's "The Bartered Bride" and Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake."

Original musicals by young artists will also be held before that performance.

Organizers say the concerts have become a cultural brand of Shanghai and have nurtured a love of classical music among the young.
