The exhibition “American Pop Art and Japanese Modern Art” features nearly 170 prints and photos created by a cluster of big-name artists, including Andy Warhol, Murakami Takashi, Kohei Nawa and Yayoi Kusama.

On display at the Shanghai Xinhua Center through September 1, all the prints are stamped with the artists’ signatures and edition numbers.

“While the original artworks created by these masters fetch astronomical figures, prints especially with artist’s signature and number of editions are affordable by ordinary people,” said Xie Dingwei, the organizer of the exhibition.

The highlight is from Andy Warhol (1928-1987), the father of Western pop art.

His world-famous print “Marilyn Monroe” in a set of 10 prints are on show. Warhol was an American artist, director and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art.

His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising and celebrity culture that flourished by the 1960s, spanning a variety of media including painting, silk screen, photography, film and sculpture.

Fans of Yayoi Kusama and Murakami Takashi can also enjoy their representative works, such as “Pumpkin” and “Sunflower.”

The exhibition also displays the photos captured by Araki Nobuyoshi.

Similar to prints, photos with the artist’s signature and number of editions are also affordable by ordinary people.

Date: Through September 1, 10am—6pm
