Four batches of food products, out of a total of 729 surveyed, have failed quality tests, the city's market watchdog said on Wednesday.

Honey containing norfloxacin was sold at the Yuepu outlet of Hualian GMS in Baoshan District and a Lotus outlet on Xingang Road in Hongkou District, according to the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation.

The two batches of honey products were produced by Jiangxi Caifengren and Yifeng in east China’s Jiangxi Province.

Norfloxacin, an antibiotic, is banned  as it harms the liver and can lead to gastrointestinal tract discomfort and headaches.

A batch of fried bean curd made and sold by Shanghai Xinchen Bean Products Co Ltd in Songjiang District had excessive aluminium residue, according to the administration.

Long-term exposure to excessive aluminium can lead to neurological damage.

Mold was detected in cereal powder produced and sold by Shanghai Dianyang Food Co Ltd in Minhang District, officials said.

In addition, five out of 30 humidifiers sold online were found to be substandard. They failed for stability and mechanical hazards, signage and instructions, as well as electric shock danger.
