Adidas' China company was fined over 140,000 yuan (US$20,000) and had more than 160,000 yuan illegal profits confiscated after authorities found material in its shoes not as marked on the label.

Model number B27136 of sports shoes were made from cattle split leather, synthetic leather, cow leather and rubber, tests found, while the label said they were made from top-grain cow leather, according to the Xuhui District Administration for Market Regulation.

The shoes sold were valued at 288,938 yuan, the administration said, with profits amounting to 164,251 yuan.

Selling inferior products as superior ones violated China's product quality law.

The company was ordered to stop sales of the products.
