Hebei leads the way at Pujiang Forum

As the province of honor at the Pujiang Innovation Forum this year, Hebei will play a major role in the development of the blueprint for science and technology innovation in China.

Focusing on the development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Yangtze River Delta regions as well as the challenges and opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative, delegates will discuss the best way to create a new pattern of national science and technology development.

Additionally, the province in north China will introduce itself in an all-round way.

A delegation of the Hebei provincial government headed by Vice Governor Xu Jianpei is participating in the forum. 

At the opening ceremony of the forum this morning, Xu will deliver a keynote speech and give a comprehensive introduction of the province, including the general situation of the province, its current development, future opportunities and foreign cooperations.

Taking Hebei’s science and technology innovation policy as the theme and focusing on the construction of the province’s innovation policy system, experts from Hebei will conduct extensive and in-depth discussions and exchanges with guests at the forum on topics such as the transformation of scientific and technological achievements of Hebei.

The province will also send a business delegation of nearly 100 people from enterprises, universities, scientific research institutes and administrative departments to attend its own sub-forum.

Hebei will engage with Singapore, the country of honor this year, in the fields of sustainable environmental technology and medical and health sciences, and seek opportunities for scientific and technological cooperation.

In addition, Hebei will participate in the Regional & Urban Forum and the Science and Technology Innovation Roundtable Summit for Young Innovators.

In recent years, Hebei has seized the opportunity of the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, while taking innovation as the goal of driving high-quality development, making full use of global innovation resources, and accelerating the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries to develop strategic emerging industries and cultivate new highland for the development of new-generation information technology, new-energy vehicles, energy-saving and environmental protection industries.

The province is also creating new competitive advantages in high-end equipment, biomedicine, new energy and new materials industries.

On the occasion of the forum, Hebei will take part in the planning and organization of the Regional & Urban Forum and the Policy Forum. This time, Hebei and Shanghai will make a collective effort for China’s long-term development as an innovative country.

As a guest at the forum, Hua Changchun, dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Yanshan University, will take part in the Science and Technology Innovation Roundtable Summit for Young Innovators with the theme of “Insight to Future — N Fields Worthy of Most Attention,” will deliver a keynote speech at the summit and make interactive exchanges with audience and other guests. 

The summit focuses on inviting young scientists and entrepreneurs in science and technology with a global vision and influence to interactively discuss the “N Fields” of concern that not only contain the most advanced science and technology elements, but also are closely related to the destiny and well-being of humans, as well as explore and give an insight into the next direction indicating the future social progress.

Hua and Xiao Fei, general manager of Rentian Group, will participate in the Young Scientists’ Consultation Meeting to give advice for the prosperity and development of China’s scientific and technological undertakings, and to make Hebei’s voice heard.

The culture of Hebei has a long history. Among a variety of art forms in Hebei, acrobatics is the most representative.

As the province of honor, Hebei brings the latest large-scale acrobatics show for the “Sino-Singapore Night” evening gala.

The show created by Hebei Acrobatic Troupe last year is expected to promote Hebei’s cultural exchanges with other provinces, cities, countries and regions. 

At the same time, feature films such as “Hebei With Full Hope” will be aired in the main hall of the forum to show the innovative measures and progress of Hebei when facing major strategic opportunities, such as the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated innovation strategy, and to give guests better understanding of Hebei.

Established in 2008, the Pujiang Innovation Forum is a high-level international forum jointly organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shanghai municipal government.

Over the past 11 years, the forum has been keeping a foothold in China, looking at the world at large, and adhering to the theme of science and technology innovation and the idea of opening-up and collaboration. The forum has improved its function, widened its vision, enhanced its influence and optimized its mechanism.

It has attracted more than 1,000 government officials, academicians and business elites from the world to discuss the issues in the domestic and foreign innovation fields, forming a batch of deep and valuable insights into the economic development and innovation. Thus, it has become a high-level international forum of great social influence.

Since the establishment of the province of honor in 2012, Beijing, Sichuan, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Guangdong have taken the role.
