People visit the exhibition hall of Roewe.

Local residents have had a first hand look at the latest auto industry trends at local carmaker Roewe's exhibition as as part of the “Approaching the Fortune 500” event at the 2019 Shanghai Science Festival.

Roewe, owned by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, is one of China's pioneers in driverless vehicles and clean energy cars.

Most of the major components, such as engines, are developed in-house, and its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle propulsion system has been honored with both the city’s and the nation’s top science awards.

On Friday in its exhibition hall on Madang Road, people entered a futuristic cockpit to experience driving an intelligent vehicle, the Roewe Marvel X, through virtual reality technology.

In the outdoor square, they watched the vehicle, with augmented reality technology, drive and park automatically.
