More than 1,000 events have been held during the city’s annual science extravaganza from May 15 to 26, allowing people to explore the joys of science. At the opening ceremony of the 2019 Shanghai Science Festival, 18 eminent participants from around the world walked the red carpet like movie stars. People of all groups found fun in the festival. Children took part in interactive games, university students visited international companies and innovation centers, and experts and scientists had the chance to exchange ideas about cutting-edge technologies.

Children get immersed in the world of birds in the annual “Museum Night” at the Shanghai Natural History Museum. Bird experts guide them a bird tour, and craftspeople teach them to make birds using traditional Chinese paper-cutting skills, paint birds on their faces and display bamboo whistles to imitate bird calls.
