Li Qiang, Party secretary of Shanghai, met Yok Mu-ming, chairman of the Taiwan-based New Party, and his delegation yesterday.

The important speech by President Xi Jinping on the 40th anniversary of the Chinese mainland’s Message to Compatriots in Taiwan on January 2, 2019 has become a guideline for developing peaceful cross-Strait relationship, rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the peaceful reunification of China, Li said.

Shanghai and Taiwan should strengthen exchanges and cooperation in all fields and make more contributions to the deepening of integrated development and welfare of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Li added.

“We will uphold the basic principles of the ‘one country, two systems’, uphold the 1992 Consensus based on the one-China principle and battle against ‘Taiwan independence’ in order to push forward the peaceful development of cross-Strait relationship together,” Yok said.

Yok is leading a delegation of personages from various circles in Taiwan on his visit to the Chinese mainland from May 24 to 30. The delegation will also visit Guangdong, Jiangsu and Beijing during the trip.

Zheng Gangmiao, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Committee, also attended the meeting.
