A 56-year-old man has been detained for causing a traffic accident on the Middle Ring Road while driving drunk, traffic police said on Saturday.

The accident occurred near the down ramp to Guangyue Road at 11:05pm on Friday.

The motorist, surnamed Wang, knocked another car down the elevated road. The second driver was not critically injured, police said.

Wang fled the scene but was tracked down and caught by police at his home in a residential complex about 50 minutes later.

An alcohol test showed that his blood alcohol level was 116 mg/100ml, passing the threshold for drunk driving which is 80 mg/100ml, police said.
